Bulk barcode generator

Paste one column from Excel or Google Sheets. Get a barcode for every line as a ZIP of PNG files, or print the whole list on a sheet of labels.

Bulk Barcode Labels From Excel (Free)

Use this bulk barcode generator when you have a list of codes to turn into barcodes. Copy one column from a spreadsheet and paste it in the box. Each line becomes one barcode. You can download all of them as a ZIP of PNG files, or print them on a sheet of labels.

Prepare the column

  1. Open the spreadsheet. Find the column that holds the codes, such as SKU, Item number or Asset ID.
  2. Check the values. Remove any extra spaces, notes or blank cells you do not want. A blank line is skipped, so it does not stop the tool.
  3. Format the column as Text. Excel and Google Sheets can change long numbers. A UPC that starts with 0 can lose the 0. Select the column, set the format to Text, then type or paste the numbers again.
  4. Copy the column. Select the cells, without the heading, and copy them.

Paste the list

Click Many barcodes at the top of the tool. Paste the column into the box. The tool counts the barcodes it can make. If a line does not fit the barcode type, the tool lists the line number and tells you why. For example, a UPC-A line with 10 digits is a bad line. Fix it in your spreadsheet, copy the column again, and paste it into the tool.

The first 60 barcodes appear in the preview. The download and the labels include every good line.

Download a ZIP of PNG files

Choose Download all as a ZIP of PNGs. The tool makes one PNG for each good line and puts them in a single ZIP file. Each file name starts with a number and then the value, such as 001-ABC-1234.png. The numbers keep the order of your list, and they stop two files from having the same name.

Open the ZIP on your computer and check a few files. The PNG files are drawn at four times their normal size, so they print sharp. Use them in your own label design, a shop system, or a document.

Pick a sheet in the list, such as Avery® 5160, Avery® 5167 or Avery® 5163. Click Print them on label sheets. The tool saves your barcodes in this browser and takes you to sign up. Your labels then open in LabelPeel, with one label for each barcode.

In the app, you can add a name, a price or a logo next to each barcode. Print a test page on plain paper first, hold it up to a sheet, and check the fit. Then print on the label sheet at 100%.

Common problems

  • Some lines are listed as bad. Read the message. Most problems are a wrong number of digits or a wrong check digit.
  • The leading zeros are gone. The spreadsheet changed the numbers. Format the column as Text, then copy it again.
  • The ZIP has fewer files than rows. Blank rows and bad lines are not used. The count at the top shows how many barcodes were made.
  • The labels are not in the same order. Each label follows the order of the lines you pasted. Sort the column in your spreadsheet before you copy it.

Make barcode labels from a list

The barcode labels page explains the barcode types and how to choose a sheet. For a longer guide to getting a list out of Excel, read how to print labels from Excel. If you use Word for the mail merge instead, mail merge labels from Excel to Word shows that method.

Questions

How many barcodes can I make at once?

The tool takes up to 5,000 lines in one go. Lines that do not fit the barcode type are listed, so you can fix them and paste again.

Why do my barcodes lose their leading zeros?

Excel and Google Sheets can treat a number as a number and drop the zeros in front. Format the column as Text before you paste, or type an apostrophe before each code.

Can I get a barcode generator from Excel without a plug-in?

Yes. Copy the column from Excel into this tool. You do not need to install anything, and no macro is needed.

Can I print the barcodes on Avery® sheets?

Yes. Choose a sheet such as Avery® 5160, 5167 or 5163 in the tool, then sign up to open the labels in LabelPeel. The app makes one label for each line, ready to print.
